Light Art Exhibition: LICHTGESTALTEN
The urban Lightinstallation „das weiß‘ ich nicht“ describes the search for a place which is the most signposted worldwide but which so far has not been accessed by anyone. Signs to this place can be seen in all public buildings: they are meant to save you in an emergency and show you an escape route. We see a green room with a white door. A person runs towards it in the direction of the arrow. Everyone knows: when you follow this sign you will reach the outside and with it safety. This idea is turned upside down in the Lightinstallation on the ‚Lindenplatz‘ in Unna: From the freedom of the outside we are being led, with the help of lit exit signs, to our destination. So now this special space is being found for the first time. Does it offer security? At least it cannot be overlooked: one can walk into a centrally positioned illuminated room, in the shape of of an overdimensionally huge exit sign. However, if you expect to be able to escape into this room you will be dissappointed. You can look inside but not walk into it, because the room is occupied by Mr. White, the figure we recognise as the person from the earliest signs - but he too might be on the run...
